Year 10 Humanities Essay Competition

Year 10 Humanities Essay Competition
10th May 2024

This year's Year 10 Humanities Essay Competition winner was Alicia A who wrote an outstanding sociology essay on the prompt: ‘Housewives should be paid for their work’. Discuss. Alicia demonstrated excellent research skills and developed her argument over the course of 1500 words. She concluded that although there are practical considerations that limit how feasible such an action would be, there is a clear moral case to remunerate 'housewives' for their work. She stated it was a first step in an 'important conversation in recognising previously unrecognised work'. We wish her well building upon her successes as a thinker and writer in the future.

We also congratulate Oliwier B (2nd) and Suhail V (3rd) for their superb submissions this year. Both offered clarity and precision in their argumentation and demonstrated excellent understanding of their subject areas. We had a wide range of excellent submissions covering all four Humanities subjects and we had a number of students who received runner up awards. These include: Yousaf A, Teagan S, Hajar A-H, Aayan K, Qadar M, Imogen W-L. Well done to you all!
