Year 13 Leavers Event and Award Winners

On Friday 24th of May, the Year 13s returned to Kingsbury Sixth Form for their Leavers Day. This event provided an opportunity for the students to celebrate their accomplishments over the years and for staff to wish them the best of luck in their future endeavours. We were also joined by the Headteacher (Mr Thomas), the Chair of Governors (Ms Ernstoff), Lady Rose of Colmworth and Mr and Mrs Panchal. The day included an array of planned events, including a celebratory assembly where the highly anticipated Special Prizes were awarded. Kingsbury High School has a longstanding tradition of awarding these Special Prizes in the name of alumni and/or other significant figures who have played a role in shaping the school.

Below are prizes which were awarded during the celebration, along with the winners:

  • Mr & Mrs Panchal’s Award (for Physics and Mathematics) - In remembrance of their Sons, Kunjal & Dr. Neilkunal Panchal. Mr and Mrs Panchal also generously donated a large sum of money to build the Sixth Form Canopy and seated outside area, which is enjoyed by students through all seasons. Winners: Physics: Tushar K / Maths: Vrinda P
  • Catherine Barker (former English teacher at KHS) and Donoghue v Stevenson (a famous case in English law) Awards - Donated by Lady Rose of Colmworth, a judge on the Supreme Court, former student at KHS. Awarded to students who wish to study Law at university. Winners: Johann P and Rutvi S / Politics: Simran J and Joice N / English Literature: Nicole C and Cara W
  • Douglas Peacock Memorial Award (outstanding commitment to Chemistry) - Former Deputy Headteacher and Chemistry teacher. Winner: Sahil H
  • Dr Yoganayagam Chemistry Award - Former student who gained exceptional grades and showed passion for Chemistry. Winner: Suxin H
  • John Wyles Memorial Award (for achievement in the face of adversity) - Former teacher at KHS. Winner: Tuqa A
  • Richard Vaizey Memorial Award (for intellectual curiosity) - Former Head of Year and MFL Teacher who supported the wider intellectual enrichment of students through art, poetry, music and film. Winner: Nicole C (EPQ)
  • Dr John Marks Memorial Award - previous School Governor, recognising deserving applicants to Oxbridge (Oxford or Cambridge University) Winners: Johann P, Sahil H, Vrinda P, Nura A, Sara T
  • Philip Snell Award (for academic excellence) - Previous long-serving Headteacher Winner: Sara T
  • Roger Stone Memorial Award (Contribution to the wider school Community: volunteering) - Former Brent Councillor and Chair of Governors. Winner: Gopitharan T
  • Elizabeth Williams Memorial Award (for outstanding contribution to our school community) - Former Head of Sixth Form who donated a substantial part of her estate to convert D block into the Elizabeth Williams’ Sixth Form Centre. Winner: Alka H

After the event, students were able to collect their Leavers Hoodies and Yearbooks. They were treated to freshly cooked food from a local restaurant and took part in our photo booth, games, karaoke and a bouncy castle. All in all, it was a wonderful day and we, as a Sixth Form Team, wish the Year 13s the very best of luck with their examination results in the Summer.
