Visit of Dawn Butler MP

Visit of Dawn Butler MP
28th Oct 2024

Recently we met our local MP for Brent East, Dawn Butler. We had the opportunity to ask her a range of questions regarding both local and national issues and she has promised to come back and visit us again in the near future! Dawn spoke to about her life growing up and the struggles she faced along the way. She told us that she didn’t originally want to become an MP but was always passionate about helping people. Her story is an inspirational one that we can learn a lot from. As someone from a humble background, she told us that “Where you start doesn’t dictate where you will end up, as long as you make a good start to begin with.’’. This links strongly to our school values of showing aspiration and resilience in everything that we do. Dawn also shared with us a song that she chants to helps her overcome any negative comments she receives. Released as a single in 1987, the song has become an anthem for those facing adversity and fighting for justice and equality. Its powerful message of resilience and inner strength continues to inspire many:

“Brothers and sisters,

When they insist we're just not good enough

Well we know better

Just look him in his eyes and say

We're gonna do it anyway

We're gonna do it anyway”
