This term, Ms Hurt, Assistant Headteacher for Attendance & Behaviour, was recognised for her work in creating an anti- bullying culture at the school. The Anti-bullying Alliance invited students across the country to nominate members of staff who they believed went above and beyond the call of duty to prevent and respond to bullying and to raise awareness of bullying in school. Ms Hurt was chosen to win the award, amongst the hundreds of nominations received, from the selection panel of children and young people.
The student who nominated Ms Hurt said:
"Ms Hurt is one of the most supportive and loving teachers we have in our school. She takes bullying and our wellbeing very seriously. Ms Hurt try’s very hard to prevent bullying. She set up an ‘Anonymous’ email for children within our school struggling to speak up so they can talk to her online, since it may be easier than coming forward face to face. Ms Hurt leads the ‘anti bullying team’ and arranges meetings with us frequently. In our meetings we organise anti bullying poster competitions, anti bullying assemblies etc. By doing this, we give a chance for all the student to get creative and think about why bullying is wrong, then as a team we’ll chose winners and Ms Hurt will reward them and put there posters up around the school. This then helps prevent bullying"
