Year 12 Work Experience Programme

Year 12 Work Experience Programme
4th Jul 2023

To support students with their employability skills and understanding of professional working environments, our Year 12 students took part in compulsory work experience between the 10-14th of July, either virtually or in-person. Amazingly, over 75% of our Year 12 students were able to secure either in-person or virtual work experience externally, with the support of the Sixth Form Team and their parents/carers. Prior to achieving this, the students were supported to develop their employability skills and research potential post-18 pathways/careers during Start the Day Right (registrations) and Excel Days.

For those who were unable to find a work experience placement, we offered an 'in-school' work experience programme which consisted of visiting speakers from a range of sectors, who shared industry insights with students and encouraged them to engage with tasks designed to further develop their hard and soft skills. One visiting speaker included Zadie Smith, an award-winning novelist originally from Willesden, who is best known for her book 'White Teeth.' Students were additionally assigned to different faculty areas and/or departments within the school to support and assist with tasks.

During their placements, Year 12 students completed a work experience report in order to reflect upon the skills they had developed, including areas of strengths and development. Experiences and information gathered can be used by Year 12 when writing personal statements.
