Spanish A Level

 In the first year, students study:

  • Aspects of society and social trends
  • Artistic Culture
  • Grammar
  • A book or film 

The second year develops and expands upon topics studied in the first year: 

  • Multiculturalism and social issues
  • Political and artistic culture
  • Grammar
  • A book and a film
  • An independent research project.

Paper 1: Listening, reading and writing

  • Current trends and issues in society, artistic culture, aspects of political life
  • 2 hours 30 minutes, 50% of A-level

Paper 2: Writing

  • One text and one film, grammar
  • 2 hours, 20% of A-level

Paper 3: Speaking exam

  • Discussion of a topic and presentation and discussion of the research project
  • Usually your teacher is the examiner

All of the content will be rooted in the Target Language cultures – so you will be studying the topics as they apply to French- German- or Spanish-speaking countries and the exact topics will depend on the language you study. The Languages department can give you more information about the topics for each Language. Students complete an individual research project in preparation for the speaking test at the end of the second year. Students will need to read and listen independently to a variety of media in the Target Language to be successful in A-Level Languages.
